God is good! During this holiday season we have so much to be thankful to God and I am so excited to be able to invite you to participate in the third annual "Our Hebrew Heritage and Gospel Research Conference" which will be held in Tulsa, Feb. 17th-20th. We will have leading scholars in their fields sharing with you trustworthy teachings.

The Hebrew word, shivviti is found in Psalm 16:8 and is often used to emphasize the most important aspect of prayer. In fact, in many synagogues there is a special voltive tablet placed as plaque in the synagogue where the person worshiping God in prayer can concentrate with his or her full heart on the meaning of shivviti, "I have set the LORD before me at all times" (Psalm 16:8). I believe this is what our Lord stressed in the Disciple’s Prayer, "Thy Kingdom come,"or "continue establishing your Kingdom" in my life.

The theme of the conference this year is prayer and spiritual growth. I have asked David Bivin from Jerusalem to teach on the Hebrew meaning of the words in the prayers of Jesus. Joseph Frankovic will teach us about the Bible and the midrash in Jewish teachings. Lenore Mullican will speak on the prayers of women in ancient Judaism and the early church. Dr. John Garr of the Restoration Foundation will be sharing about Passover, the atonement and prayers in Jewish festivals. I will teaching about Bible translation and the prayers in the New Testament and the ancient synagogue. As the first event of the conference, I will be leading a Biblical Passover demonstration where we will compare modern Passover customs to the Exodus account and the celebration of Passover in the time of Jesus.

As a special treat this year, Phoenix Christian Assembly is sending their Israeli cultural dance group. They have performed in many leading synagogues and Jewish groups in the Phoenix area as well as in many churches. Their dances will bring Israeli culture to our times of study and worship.

On Sunday afternoon, we will go to the synagogue Temple Israel where Rabbi Charles Sherman will teach us about Jewish prayer today and explore some of the prayers emerging from the holocaust experience. Cliff Michaels who was a soldier in Patton’s army will share his experiences as a holocaust liberator and Connie Plumlee will help us understand how to educate the next generation about the holocaust. Dr. John Swails will help us know how to teach the meaning of the holocaust and the Jewish roots of our faith in Christian education.

I am excited about the theme of prayer and spiritual growth as we explore our Hebrew Heritage and gospel research. I hope that you will make every effort to be a part of this years conference. Can you think of a better way to start the new millennium? Psalm 16 encourages us, "I have set the LORD before me at all times... Therefore my heart is glad."

Please lift us up in your prayers. At Gospel Research Foundation, we love to pray for you and your needs as we work on our translation and commentary projects. If you cannot come and join us in the conference, pray for us and all who will experience these events. If at all possible, please register today and plan to learn with us during this eventful weekend.

Shalom and Grace,

Brad
