For those interested in learning Hebrew, either biblical or modern, we recommend that you begin with the Primer Set and see how this system works for you. The text is really fairly self-explanatory and with desire and self-discipline most students progress very well. The Primer has a vocabulary of about 140 words and teaches both the block-type printed alphabet as well as the script alphabet. You learn actual Hebrew words from the very first lesson. The vocabulary practice tapes allow you to hear the correct pronunciation in Hebrew followed by a pause for you to repeat the word. (Note: The sephardi is used in these tapes since that is the pronunciation used in Israel.)

When you have successfully completed the Primer Set, you may either go on to Level 1 of the modern or Book 1 of the Biblical. Some people like to study both at the same time. This works well since there is considerable overlap. Others like to complete the modern series and then go to the biblical; it is really a matter of interest and personal preference. People sometimes ask what the difference is between Biblical and modern Hebrew. It is perhaps similar to the difference between the Elizabethan English of the King James Version of the Bible and modern American English.
